For nearly 30 years, Orion has operated with respect for the communities where we’ve engaged, developed and operated renewable energy. The Orion team believes in open, respectful, and honest community engagement that leads to long lasting relationships built on trust.
Orion is actively engaging with the community through educational opportunities, public events, and directly connecting with community members.
Orion team members went door-to-door to more than 100 homes residing within a 1/3 mile of the nearest proposed solar site offering information on the proposed project, while handing out invitations to an open house. Orion representatives enjoyed meeting neighbors of the project and discussing the Orion Solar Neighbor Program. We believe it is important that neighbors meet us and hear about the project directly from us rather than through public notice. This was also a great opportunity to gain feedback from neighbors and answer their questions.
Orion hosted an open house at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ where more than 200 people attended. This event was a great opportunity to welcome the community in and meet with subject matter experts to ask questions. Each subject matter expert had a table where attendees could visit to gain information on a variety of subjects including real estate, health & safety, project site map information, construction and operations as well as general information on solar. We had a great turnout and enjoyed meeting the community.
To build off our open house, Orion hosted a second community event to introduce the Bluegrass Creek project in depth and provide an opportunity for the community to ask questions in an open forum. The town hall meeting at Venue 812 was attended by 72 members of the community, which included a 40-minute presentation followed by over two hours of questions-and-answers from the audience. Questions were submitted to our panel via notecards that night as well as directly from the audience.
See answers to questions we were unable to answer during the event here!
July 16, 2025: Orion will be hosting its third open public meeting at the Venue 812 Events & Celebration venue to discuss the permitting process and answer questions related to this subject matter. If you are interested in attending, please contact Turner Hunt and we will be sure to save you a seat.
Orion has been contributing to Indiana communities, with a focus on education through donations and scholarships, since it began developing in Indiana nearly 20 years ago. An example of our most recent partnerships, since 2023 Orion has proudly given an average of $360,000 to southern Indiana organizations and partnered with schools, foundations and first responders to support the needs of the communities we work in. Below is a breakdown of where those dollars have been provided.
Title sponsors of the Southern Indiana Football Club providing youth camps to hundreds of youths for free: over $175,000
Food pantries: $30,000
Fire departments: over $110,000
Education: over $40,000
4H Fairs & FFA programs: over $5,000
Above are the highlights of the engagement we have done since April. These, along with one-on-one conversations, have been a great way to connect with Vanderburgh County and get to know the community on a deeper level. Community goodwill begins with transparency and sincerity in effort. The Orion team is committed to facilitating a productive community dialogue that educates on the merits of our proposed solar project. Please come back to page for future updates.
